Today's an exciting PD (Professional Development) day for me because I did get to PLAY WITH SWAY! Here's my sway presentation on being a #SocialMediaLibrarian! Take it easy on me...I'm still working on it! :)
It's with great pleasure that I spoke recently for Koha-US Libraries as their keynote speaker. The theme of the conference centered around "Blazing New Trails, so I did my best to offer that insight as it pertained to Artificial Intelligence. Thank you to Koha-US Library and their 2024 Conference Planning Committee, ByWater Solutions, Round Rock Public Library under the direction of Michelle Cervantes and Rhonda Kupier. To all attendees (in-person/live-stream): I hope you found something I said worthy of investigation and participation as it relates to holding AI accountable in your library communities. I thank you for your time and attention. Below is the live-stream of my presentation. Please enjoy. SCAN THE QR CODE to have your own copy of the slides! 🤓
Whew! In less than 2 weeks, I will begin enjoying my much deserved SUMMER BREAK! My website will be on hiatus, unless something EXTRAORDINARY happens! But before I go, I want to share how we will prevent the "summer slide" in reading. Please check out Beanstack , as my district will use this to track our summer reading goals. There are more details located in this newsletter below: Summer Send-Off Newsletter by Jean Darnell
In May 2022, I spoke briefly on this blog about Teachers Not Being Okay , and now I'm following up with " All I Can Do ," which is an article I wrote on gun violence. Just below is the article in its entirety. Thank you to the American Federation of Teachers' Union (AFT) for giving me a place to release this internal torture that is surviving a school shooting and the PTSD scars that never fade. I dedicate this article to all of the educators, students and surviving family members that unwillingly perished due to preventable gun violence. Replace "thoughts and prayers" with strict policies to prohibit "civilian access to military weapons." Until then, those words ring hollow because we can help ourselves out of this nightmare. Along with my article and within this same issue, are other perspectives and suggestions to finally end this senseless suffering as it relates to gun violence. I implore you to read every one. Thank you in advance.
